Quake: Sabotage's Scorched Earth Predictions

By: Joe Szymkowicz - Published October 03, 2007 at 11:29 PM EDT - Writer Archive
TGL's Scorched Earth ETQW Tournament is in the Quarter Finals Adam "Sabotage" Robinson of The Guardians is here to give you his picks who will move on and who will be sent packing.

Continuing on with our player predictions series for the Scorched Earth Tournament, The Guardian's Adam "Sabotage" Robinson lent his ETQW expertise to GotFrag to predict the Quarter Finals of TGL's Scorched Earth event.

Team Dignitas

vs.

Unkind Gaming

If I chose to be oh so clever and do an UPSET SPECIAL like every other site on the planet, this match would be my pick for it. Do I realistically think it will happen? Nope! While Unkind does have a chance to steal a round from Dignitas, they won’t be able to keep up with the constant barrage of attacks and the Euros’ ability to adapt on the fly. If Unkind has a bag of several setups in order to keep Dignitas guessing, that would help them immensely but I know they are burnt out on Valley so I don’t believe this to be the case.

Sabotage's Prediction: Dignitas, 4-1.

GROF

vs.

Team Delta

Team Delta knocked out my Mega Kawaii friends earlier in this tournament, so I demand they lose handedly to GR-OF! I have yet to catch a match/scrim with Delta recently but I have seen GR-OF play twice now and I’ll have to give the edge to the Greeks. The only chance Delta has is if they sue GR-OF for false advertising as none of their players are actually Greek causing the judge to overturn the match.

In all seriousness, GR-OF’s teamwork and coordination looks a step ahead of where Delta’s was when I last saw them play and that will be the deciding factor for this round. Look for Athex to get 5 kills in 3 seconds at some point during the match.

Sabotage's Prediction: GROF, 3-0.

Team HOT

vs.

Team Exile

A rematch of the X-Fire Siege of September final from last Friday, xil will try to redeem themselves against an otherwise untouchable HOT squad. Unfortunately for xil, the loss of Digital and Sage will not aid them in turning up the pressure to topple Team HOT. Xil has the attitude to win but Thursday, they will fall short for the 2nd time in as many weeks. HOT’s vast array of defensive setups and adjustments will hold xil in the 2nd and 3rd stages of each round most likely.

As much as I would like to see HOT get humbled to add some flare to the NA ETQW scene, I don't foresee their demise coming to anyone from this continent.

Sabotage's Prediction: HOT, 3-0.

The Guardians

vs.

50 Calibre

The ONLY way 50 Cal has a chance in this match is if Micahwave takes some of that $100,000 he won in HL2DM and pays HOT to play for them… jk :)

For me, this will probably be the thriller of the round. Guardians and 50 have been playing at a similar level throughout the whole tournament, and even in online scrims. I think this match could honestly go either way, depending on which team shows up to play. Honestly though, I see 50 Calibre coming out on top of this one, but not by much.

nineX's Prediction: 50 Calibre, 4-1.

I would like to thank our sponsors Advanced Protection Cubed (ap3), RA Enterprises, and The Angel A. Diaz Foundation for their full support. I’d also like to thank Fepriv and the Gold Club Unit for their continual berating… "without them, we’d be nothing!"
